That's great news! Anyone know if the tree line is up between South Bay / School House Trail / Honey Harbour (Connecting to 9 & 16 on the trail network)?
If so that would mean those of us near Honey Harbour could actually get to open trails!
Thank you.

Yes I have good info that HH is starting to look good to go. Sure there are lots of sketchy spots. Stay safe and dry folks. Stay on trails, stay on the flipper and stop on land.

My boys were ice fishing in South Bay last weekend. They didn't make it to where they usually fish...ice was of poor composition, and there was water on either side of them. Play it safe!

Okay here's the real info. Been there, did that, pee'ed the pants.
Waay too much snow on ice. Now foot of slush with it. High west winds. Bad ice.
Know of 3 that went in. 1 walked out dry other had emergency services and lucky to be alive. All around HH area.
Unless you have an 800 longtrack and a bigger set than me. Go for it. Actually mine must be big cause I did it on an 80's Phazer. Nope it was just idiocy.
Geezuz. It is not cool conditions at all.
Don't bother

Thanks

I went from Midland along the tree line then cut off toward Penetang on Saturday, some slush but all good. Then went from near Penetang to Beausoleil / Roberts Island / Honey Harbour / School house trail to South bay. All good riding there. Also checked the ice thickness in South Bay: about two feet thick - but to be fair only the last 6" or so were good, clear hard ice. I would not hesitate to do the whole trip again (until the temperature rises).

Hi Outlier,
Thanks for the update. We are heading to our Cottage in Honey Harbour Saturday morning....coming by sled from Penetang. Was concerned about reports of slush on the lake....good to hear the staked line is good to Beausoleil. Did you happen to head north in behind Deer island up towards Tomohawk....we are in Little Bass Bay. Thinking of heading to the town centre, then cross from the marinas over Mermaid into North Bay then the Charlies cut portage.....thoughts?

Kennyb, I know where you are going, but I haven't been on the ice this winter. If conditions are good you can run up main channel by marinas, and there is usually a trail across Deer Island that you pick up before eagles nest(to the right). Trail comes out about five hundred feet to the east of your bay.

Thanks Searcher.....I was thinking the same way if the tree line is in or fresh tracks are visible. That is about the most direct route and stays away from the currents in the slow zone.....likely not a good way to go this year...:-).

Kennyb, I was on the ice this weekend. Best to go twice over Mermaid Island than the bend in front of Boat Club.
Two wingnuts dumped their sleds in open water Saturday, water skipping in main channel going into South Bay.
They were out in a boat Sunday marking the area.
