With the growing popularity of kayak fishing Time on the Water Canada would like to introduce our new message board and soon to be www.ontariokayakanglers.com (http://www.ontariokayakanglers.com). Kayak fishing is certainly not new but with all the equipment, easy access to so many lakes and rivers, there's a lot of zero footprint fun to be had.
Please give us some ideas about how we can grow this incredible sport.

This is a great idea John, with a growing sport it gives an area to meet new people, share ideas and stories. Also gives an area for people to ask questions. My Jackson Cuda should here soon, can't wait to get it wet.

Right on! Zero footprint is right and the ability to sneak up on the fish also.
I haven't seen too many other anglers out there. However, I know I get quite a few less odd looks from boaters now. They seemed to have gotten used to seeing me out there...
I would love to see a couple of somewhat local tourneys - That being said, I realise that it is much harder to keep a fish alive to bring back for judging... Somehow that would have to be figured out.
I am always willing to show people what I have done on mine.

As for the tournaments they are normally length only and there are some great camera mounts for pictures against tape measures. I already have my Scotty - GOPro mount. Just need something to put it on.

A couple of years back, I had watched one of the many weekend morning fishing shows and the host was demonstrating a measuring tape that was mounted in a white pvc pipe. The 4" pipe was cut transversely (just smaller than half) and a cap was placed and glued at one end to ensure a proper zero stop. The adhesive measuring tape was then placed in the tube and voilą.
I have all the things I need for the device, just need to get around doing it.

When you make one up we could use it as the standard device to be used. It would be inexpensive and easy to mount if you wanted to.
Have to go look at kayaks now.

Great to see some Ontario guys in kayaks, this will be my first season full time in a Jackson Kayak, if anyone wants a demo be sure to ask as I'll have a 2nd one and always up for group outings. I reside in Bracebridge, love Couchaching, Lake Simcoe and all the lakes that I am surrounded by. Once my kayak arrives the fun part will be setting it all up and rigging it. I love the Jackson elevated chair and ability to stand in their fishing kayaks.

Great to see more people getting into this terrific way of fishing. This will be my third year. Still learning with each trip out. Some days there is very little paddling while others I have traveled over 10kms looking for fish/trolling.
I would love to get together with others for friendly tournaments or just outings.

Any word on any possible dates for a small tourny?
I am out for the weekends of 7th and 14th of July. Along with the weekend of Aug.25th. Otherwise, pretty open!

I was browsing the idea of an event out of Bracebridge, on Lake Muskoka. With launching in Bracebridge there are many areas to fish within a couple of miles.

It is great to see a Kayak Fishing Board from this area.
I made a couple of trips last year around the Burks Falls, Magnetewan, and Kearney areas, and was looking for some help.
At the beginning of June my Girlfriend and I are bringing the kayaks up to Bear's Den Lodge to fish for the week, and yes, we already have our bug shirts to fight off the black flies. Anyone have any tips on what will help us catch fish. Pike, Walleye, and Musky are the target species and we won't turn down a good fight from a Channel Cat either.
If you are looking for a Kayak Event to fish in, come down to Windsor for the long weekend at Beginning of July. The "Border City Classic" (http://"Border City Classic") is a one day event on Lake St. Clair/Detroit River for best 3 Bass, CPR. Your $50 entry gets you a chance at a Jackson Cuda and a nice dinner. We have 34 pre-registered to date with a handful of guys from out of town that will stay Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights to fish all weekend. There are lots of opportunities for Bass, Walleye, Musky and Channel Cat at that time of the year on both Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie
