Hello guys,
Got out yesterday rnd 2pm and cruised arnd until 7 ish...unfortunately didn't mark any in and arnd "the hole" just outside of Penetanguishene Bay. Has anyone had any luck in that area of late?

Last Sunday, got out on Lake Ontario with Marc of Kings Landing Sport Fishing (Bluffer's Park Marina) and we slayed quite a few! A coupe Kings and a couple Rainbow. Fantastic day which I'm starting to think might not be reproduceable in the Penetang area. Thinking of applying for a slip on Lake Ontario next season.
What do you guys think? Is our Penetang/georgian Bay area fished out? I hear the Ministry loaded 1.1 Million Salmonoid Fry into the GTA area fishery this year. Anyone know if there's any being added to the Georgian area?
Looking for better fishing grounds. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Good fishing to all.

Yes and No
We have all trolled for miles hoping to find fish and it is a strategy many use.  We often get stuck fishing same depths, same area, same structure and same lures.  I'm guilty of doing it too.  But if you are struggling to find consistent bites or fish for that matter then its time to try something different.  Go shallow or go deep both have proved very effective for me when trolling and unable to find fish.
But its also about reading your electronics, watching winds, judging the time of year, etc.  This past weekend i noticed on my FF everywhere I trolled i noticed a high thermocline, fish are likely in the upper water column which makes it challenging but they can be caught.  Or if you think of it, try trolling shallower where the thermocline might be closer to the bottom.  I tried this method on the weekend, in 80-130 thermo was at 30ft so i trolled into the shallows and targeted 40-55 fow, ran my baits approx 10 ft off bottom and was rewarded with some decent salmon action. 3/5 for quick few hours solo trip. Bait was loaded on bottom in
30-40fow.
When i run solo and having difficulty locating fish, I'll often run Grippers, a spoon that likes to be trolled fast. 3-3.5 mph at the ball. I was going 4-4.5mph on the surface and was able to cover a lot of ground and found fish quickly.  Salmon love a good chase and they inhale these lures. I used this method on Saturday morning as well and was able to find fish but only turned one salmon on the Gripper, they actually wanted a slower presentation and I threw down some other spoons and the fish reacted well to them.

So again, try something new and different, get out of your comfort zone.

Canuck ... a shorter lead is mainly for flies or small spoons or a short lead on meat is when fish are staging and biting out of aggression.  Lengthen your lead from flasher to bait, trust me!

Was out of Collingwood on the weekend.  Dragging the ball in about 85 feet of water caught two nice lakers on spoons.   Didn’t appear anyone right near us was banging them off very quickly so I guess it’s just covering miles and getting lucky

Hmm.  Those are really long leads.  I had read somewhere to go shorter, so most of mine are about 24-30".  Maybe I need to lengthen them, or at least try a few.

So my meat of choice last few years was small frozen sardines that fit in the anchovie bait holders.  They stayed in really well and didn't need to be cured.  Just put them in.  I got them at Terra Foods (Asian food store).  This year they only had larger sized sardines, so I fileted them and salt/borax cured the filets and will try them in my herring strip holders.  They seem like they might work.  If not I'll go to another Asian market in Mississauga and see if they have the small sardines (4 to 5 inches).

I haven't been out yet.  I broke my wrist playing hockey back in April and needed surgery to put a steel plate in. Its just getting back to the stage where I would be comfortable on the water and getting the boat back into the slip and getting the lines pulled tight.  I'll probably go out next week once the weather is right.  Wish me luck!

Hey Canuck.  I like to keep things simple and smaller on the Bay.  8" flashers for me.  I like glow and solid colors (less flash) in June/July and smaller trebles.  Come august, anything goes as we fish deeper and fish are hitting out of aggression.  That being said if I'm fishing skinnier water late season ill go with an 8" vs something bigger.  Leads are always around 72"
I also prefer a flasher without fins, I prefer less resistance so i can vary my speeds, sometimes i troll a flasher fast.
The Krome seeker paddles I really like and helped design a few patterns that have really been producing the past few years.  Happi hookah has some in stock.

Hi there.  Hope everyone had a great Father's day. Couldn't ask for nicer weather.   Can't help you out with flashers and flies or meat rigs.  But I'm know there are a couple guys that might be able to help you.

Launched solo from penetang Sunday morning.  Didn't start trolling until 7.  I either have to move closer or get up earlier.   Had a great morning  for a rookie. Went 4 for 5. 2 Lakers and 2 kings. One trout beat me to a live release.  But I was really just watching him play by the boat. One of the kings was a shaker but I'll still count him. Had to keep one trout. It and the king  were around 6lbs.  Used Moonshines  at around 2.7 mph surface speed.  Most caught in around 70 ft over 120 to 140ft.

No pics for you.  They all look the same to me.

It was my first time returning to the public launch at mid day on a weekend.   Boat traffic was something.   It was calmer on the west side of the tomb then it was in the bay.

Cheers.

No report sorry.  Haven't been out yet.
Question for ya'll.  When running flashers with flies/meat, do you have better luck with the large size or the smaller size flashers.  I have been running both for years, but haven't really noticed much difference.  I think maybe later in the year the larger ones get more fish?  Wondering what your experience is?

I would only be guessing. But I would think under half an hour to the Gin rocks. Depending on the size of your boat and the wind direction. The water looked good enough to start trolling around there.

Some spoons are considered flutter spoons, they are lighter in weight.  Troll them slow 1.8-2.3
Spoons like Moonshine are heavier, troll them faster 2.7- 3.2mphh
Flashers and meat 1.8-2.6
Flasher/Fly 2.2-2.8
This is what works for me
