Riding in the ice
« on: February 14, 2014, 10:30:55 am »
According to satellite images the ice has been locked up tight around beckwith and surrounding islands for weeks now maybe even a month.
Does anyone ride out there?  To hope or beckwith or giants tomb?  I saw sleds years ago riding from hope to parry sound but that takes some balls.
Has anyone done it?  Who has the biggest balls?
I want to try it but won't do it alone.

It's frozen out to giant's tomb... I have some on Facebook that have pictures of the ice build ups there.
I haven't been out there myself - it's much too far of a walk  :o

I'm going to Giants Tomb tomorrow, with someone who has been there in the last week.

I have heard of two sleds going through on the way there...be careful.

I made it out to Giants Tomb today. Sled tracks all over the place.

Was told there is also an ice road to Christian Island.

Make sure you do go with someone who knows. Ice caves are incredible and have been rare last few decades - must see. Should be busy out there march break. We came down from Go Home and traveled to the east side of the tomb. We then went through "The Gap" to get to the west side where all of the formations are. Go on a bright sunny day. Don't bother in a storm. Our pictures are on Go Home Lake facebook page. Be safe, one can truly see the power of nature out there. Someone actually posted a video of a sled going down in Owen Sound. Keep that s#@t to yourselves. Bad for the sport. Cheers

pretty sure that was off tobermory not owen sound there is almost 20" of ice out past the golf course. let me remind you it is up to the operators of the sleds to make sure if ice is safe! if your unsure always check yourself stay safe and lets hope the fishing gets better :-[

Sorry I missed your post. I don't know anyone who was crossing back then but my brother in law should be up this week.
