I spoke with local that lives on little beausolie today. Sleds are out but it is sketchy. He is not using a cutter yet. A sled went in by bide a wee. Anywhere there is current is no go. I wouldn't go down the main channel. Slushy and sketchy...only go with someone who knows. It's not great

I plan on taking the portage from honey harbour over mermaid into north bay than vessairs portage.
OR I could take deer island portage which would put me right in front of my place at Cherry Point.
I have been doing the trip for years, yet still feel more confident with local knowledge. Will call marina tomorrow and see if the hydro guys have been running around. thats usually a tell tale, or if wardens are running to beasoleil.
Are you planning on taking the trip cranks?

What I can tell you, the rangers were out measuring ice from town towards Roberts island. They went back in. They don't go until at least 6in. They did not make it far.
Not giving advice, just what I heard ok. Check with your marina contact.

Hoping that after tonight. -16. That should be enough to tighten it up for tomorrow. Will play it close and with caution.

These windless nights should help as well.

Just back. Lots of sleds out on weekend. Made it to beausolie and around the area.

However, with all the sled tracks everywhere people will have a false sense of security.

The ice is not good everywhere. Saw a open hole 100 yds from mouth of big dog towards the dell this morning.

Lots were riding there yesterday.

It is slushy and thin. This weather and winds will not help.

Be careful. Don't stop on the ice.

Is the trail from Midland to Honey Harbor open and marked?

No John it was not marked as of Sat when we stopped at the Tip of Beausolie.

Lots of young fellas riding across to Penetang.

NOT for me!
However, that ice may be better than spots with current.

Without some real cold and no more snow on the ice, it will be a very short Winter.

I would like to make ay least a couple of walleye trips. Also wanted to head out to the caves but I have a feeling there isn't going to be any.

I would like to fish a couple of my spots around the Harbour too. May sometime in Feb.

Was out at the Tomb a couple times last 2 years.

I would not go this year if someone paid me.

Sat image on Jan 18th showed very little ice/grey towards tomb. By Jan 22, it was white but I bet not very good.

Next year.

I'll have to wait. I really enjoyed heading out to the lighthouse on Hope last year.

Ya heard tree line to cog went in...but some spots were only 3in at best.

Bad ice year. Let's all hope everyone plays it safe.

Long Range weather models look better for mid February. But sun is then becoming the enemy.

Oh well, payback for two good years. Stay safe folks

Hi Folks

Made it to my place south of Tomahawk on Sunday the (24th).
Travelled from Midland harbour across present island to wardens. From there I headed
across the portage on Roberts Islands to downtown Honey Harbour.
I than jumped across Mermaid Island. Took the portage around the bide a wee and into North Bay. From there I took Vessairs portage ( which was marked) into the back of the blasted channel and basically Im right at my place at Cherry Point.
This route was ( safe), maybe the only safest route.
I am considering another trip up today ( saturday the 30th). I will proceed with caution due to the high winds. Thursday night was quite cold and would have helped to tighten things up again. I will report back as to how conditions remain after today.
Be safe everyone. Don't go where you don't know.
