Measuring pipe

Here are a couple of pictures of the pipe I had mentioned earlier.
I took a 4'' PVC pipe because they have better UV resistance than the black ABS do (and I am thinking it might not be as hot to handle if it stays out in the sun all day).


I cut the pipe to a four foot length since the tape inside is three feet.



I needed to trim the tape to get the zero mark up to the end exactly.




All I need to do now is figure a way to keep it tied with kayak. I am guessing a lanyard of some sort tied with a bungee...

Lol. I gave it to my neighbor - handle Kenzy.

I do have the other four foot piece that is now taking up space. All you would need to do is add on the cap and rip it...

Lord suffering guys!! A four foot pipe's too short . Muskies have to be 54" to be even legal .

Seriously, great job and a wonderful method to reduce stress on fish you intend to release. I'm not the least bit surprised to see that it was Kayaker that created this device. I marvelled at your layout of fishing equipment on your ten footer!

I won't take credit for this device however. I had seen this a couple of years back on a show and as a matter of fact, that pipe has been leaning on my wall for almost 2 years now!
John can take the credit for inspiring me get off my butt and make it!

I have an extremely basic measuring system for culling slot walleye on Gbay that I think I might still keep using even though this pipe is going to be really handy. I marked some green painters tape on my paddle - works great and surprisingly enough, hasn't come off either.

Hah! I forgot to mention, I was real close to cutting them to 54''. But I figured, I probably wouldn't keep them anyways so no point in adding the extra weight...

I have also seen someone use a plastic eaves trough with a measuring tape inside.

The only fish I wanna measure are usually pike and over 40", gonna have to think of something. Would fit inside the well of my Jackson Cuda no problem though and easy access.

The Top50 Pike tournament have scales riveted into eavestrough aswell. Saves the long cut.

These are commonly referred to as "Bump Boards"
