Beginner fishing around Beausoleil Island/Penetang area

In our experience, in the area discussed, we don't catch walleye until mid-July. We are almost always fishing 10- 18 FOW near or in weeds. Once we start catching walleye, for 6 weeks or so, we catch roughly equal numbers of walleye, smallmouth, and pike. Most of the walleye we catch are in a couple of relatively small areas, and almost all are in the slot.
Every year we catch at least one muskie, around 36 in.

What do you mean by ‘in the slot’?

Walleye have a slot size in most areas. Say 14-16 inches you can keep anything else you can't. Some places have you can keep 3 under 18 inches and one over etc. Those are just numbers I made up but that's how slot sizes work.

Slot is a slang term to describe size limits on fish. In area 14, (GB) walleye that are greater than 41 cm and less than 56 cm in length cannot be kept. The slot is 41 to 56 cm.

Gotcha. Haven't heard the term before, but aware of the size restrictions. I thought it was some sort of lake bed feature

Fished Beausoleil/HH once and it was tough. Those winds and waves can really wreck a game plan when they get going. Our best bet for pike was portions of deep weedlines along beausoleil where the flat portruded to a point. We were fishing in the fall and the pike were barfing up larger white minnows.
