Georgian Triangle Salmon and Trout Derby 2019
« on: July 16, 2019, 11:24:03 pm »
Hope everyone is enjoying the great fishing this summer. This past week has been great with lots of salmon being caught all around the Bay.

So Iíve decided to take on the task of putting together a salmon and trout tournament. An idea Iíve been toying with for a few years with hopes of growing the tournament each year.

I know itís short notice but if you can make it, I look forward to meeting you and enjoying some healthy fishing competition.

The date is August 3, weather date Aug 4
5am -3pm
No official blast off location, I ask that you use the honour system
and not start any earlier than 5am, Weigh in will be located at Little Sand on Christian Island.
$40 per angler
Cash prizes for 1st and 2nd place heaviest salmon
1st place heaviest trout (rainbow or lake trout)

Iíve started a FB group for the tournament where you will find more info.

Here is the link

https://www.facebook.com/groups/375383119830482/?ref=share

Any questions please ask or pm me.

Thanks

Kris

Is there an area that you would like this to be restricted too?  Iím just wondering because I would start in Wasaga and make my way to Christian island.  That should be the proper amount of time trolling.

No restrictions. Wasaga is definitely Triangle territory. Iíve done that troll many times. Itís a long way but great way to cover some valuable waters. Just hope itís flat calm or winds from the south on the derby day.  Nothing worse than having to pound the waves for hours on end.

I'd gladly join you in your boat Dan. I'm new to the area but far from new to trolling. I grew up trolling Erie for eyes. Not sure where you launch but I live minutes from AC marina but I could meet you anywhere.

Quick update, entries are pouring in, a bit overwhelmed lol.

We have a prize pack from Meegs lures for 2nd heaviest trout.
Ricks Happi Hooka has generously donated a prize pack of lures valued at $185 which will be raffled off.
Speedy Auto Glass in Midland will provide a set of weather tech front mats to the heaviest salmon weighed in.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the weigh in.

Tight lines!

How was the tourney guys?  I had guests up this weekend or I would have signed up.  I did go out saturday AM but just stayed in the hole and left early.  Marked some fish when we started, but they disappeared before we picked any up.  One knock off and no fish for about 2hrs trolling.

Thank you again to everyone that participated in the 2019 Georgian Triangle Salmon and Trout Derby. We had a great turnout, 42 anglers competed for cash and prizes. Most anglers caught fish, some were able to fill coolers while others only searched for the big one. The first light bite was great but many anglers said they caught fish in high sun.  It was all about timing as every spot seemed to hold fish, just not necessarily active fish. Majority of the catch were salmon, a few bows and lots of lakers! Everyone expressed how great the fishing has been and plenty stories of knockoffs and the  one that got away!
Here are the winners:
Salmon
1st  Danny Salynn 17.43 lbs $750 (Grampa on the gbay message board)
2nd Gord Barth 12.80 lbs $450

Trout (Lake Trout or Rainbow)
1st Earl Barth 9.63 lbs $300
2nd Heather Laiberte, Meegs Lure Package

Special thanks to those who donated prizes:
Ricks Happi Hookah Gun and Tackle
Speedy Auto Glass in Midland
Meegs Lures
MacDonald Surveying
The Bait Bucket
Little Gripper Lures

Stay tuned for updates on next years event, this year was such a huge success we plan on a bigger and better event next year.

Tight Lines
Kris
